As some of you may have noticed, there has been a relatively sizable lapse in my posts since my last one for the anime challenge. I had hoped to have had the challenge finished and published before I left for that time, or if I couldn’t I was hoping there’d be internet so I could post them while I was away, but unfortunately no such luck there, and as a result I was not able to meet the daily level of consistency I had been managing all the way through.
Here’s a fun little exercise many other ani-bloggers seem to be doing, and have been doing for quite some time now. Thought it’d be interesting to try my hand at one myself, and see if I can make something worth reading out of it (results may vary).
Yesterday marks the fifth month since I started up the Humble Ace blog (if I had been more timely in my writing of this, I would be saying today). And the feedback I’ve been getting over these past few months Continue reading “Five months gone by already, what’s next?”
Earlier this year I was nominated for the “Blogger Recognition Award”, but didn’t get around to it on the count of work and not really knowing what to write or how to respond to it. But since I’ve been nominated again for another blogger award (The Versatile Blogger Award), I thought making two posts would be a bit overzealous and figured the ol’ two birds with one stone approach would be the best way of going about things. So this will be a response to both awards, as well as the two bloggers who nominated me.
I know it’s been quite some time since my last post (almost a month!), and I’m not going to make any excuses having to do with me being busy with assignments, studying for exams, and just generally being tied-up with other things outside the blog (felt drained of all energy after GamerCon). But I will say that the main reasons behind my lack of work as of recent is due to my lack of motivation and good ideas, or more accurately my (temporary) loss of discipline in carrying out my ideas.
I don’t mean to make a habit of announcements and updates here, but I hate not having anything to write about or post. Just know that if I do go on hiatus for a long time (which I don’t see happening, but I won’t rule out the possibility), I won’t abandon the blog altogether. There’s still plenty of anime and other topics I want to cover. As well as, loads of other stuff I haven’t watched or engaged with on some level, that I want to write about.
With that out of the way, onto more immediate matters…
Since I’ve been busy with assignments and such, and can’t find anything good to write about regarding the anime I’ve been watching, I figured why not just make a Twitter account to relieve my thoughts and comments on things. So I did. Follow me there if you want to hear my praise and complaints about what I’m watching / reading / playing. I might also dish out recommendations and quick reviews there as well, if I finish anything that is.
Moving along, I’ll be releasing a post about something that’s not anime either this month or next month. It’s somewhat a review, and relatively an analysis on a popular video game series. So, expect more of that in the future.
Lastly, I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for all your support. Followers and fellow bloggers alike, it’s been a humbling experience blogging and both giving and receiving feedback within this community. It’s truly been a liberating and worthwhile enterprise writing and interacting with you. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
As you may have noticed, there has been a significant drop in the frequency of my posts recently – going from a post a day at the start of the month to a post every 1-2 weeks. This setback is mostly due to resuming a new semester in college and being piled with a plethora of assignments to do and exams to study for. And partially due to not using what leisure time I have to watch and write about anime. Because of this, I won’t have much time to dedicate to blogging as I’d like over the course of the next couple of months, but I will endeavour to put something out every now and then, regardless of quality (though I would much prefer it to be something of value, I tend to feel disappointed with myself if I don’t produce anything at all).
As for what I plan to post this year and the foreseeable future, while my blog is primarily anime focused, I would also like to post thoughts and analyses on other things like music and games every now and then as well. Occasionally, I may yield and write a review on whatever shows I feel I don’t have much to offer in terms of analytical substance, and just as a way of expressing my thoughts. Though, I don’t really think of myself as an arbitrator of what is good / bad, and whenever I write a review I feel like a teacher grading homework. It feels uncomfortable, and I’d rather have something else to say about a work than whether it was good or not.
I do, however, plan on formulating recommendations and what I consider to be top moments / fights / characters / etc… in anime somewhere down the line. I’m not so well-versed in shows that I can rack off numerous lesser known suggestions without missing a beat, but there are shows I have a great appreciation for and I feel deserve more attention, or a second chance.
Something else I’d like to dip my toe into when I feel confident enough in writing about it, is literature… or, I suppose pseudo-literature if you don’t think of comic books, light novels and manga as literary works (which I do). Though, I’m still fairly new to reading manga, so don’t expect these anytime soon, just a heads up on what I have in mind for the future. My focus is currently on anime and I don’t plan on moving away from it that soon. There’s still a ton of shows and movies I have to watch (and rewatch in some cases) before delving into uncharted territory.
That’s everything I had to say. Thank you for all your support. And I hope you will continue to enjoy what I post here.
