Before my inevitable rewatch, I’d like to try and dig up some fossil thoughts and feelings I have on Eva from my first experience watching it two years ago. Because this is a show I very much want to like more than I already do. Actually, I have mixed feelings about it, but this post isn’t so much concerned with exploring the show itself or how I feel about it (though it is a little) as much as it is about how hard it is to find something to new to say about it now. Basically this is a post about nothing.
This post isn’t intended to be a serious look at the show, my (current) opinion of the show, or any substantial insight of it and the fandom surrounding it, but rather just a little exercise in scratching at the young lad in me who was able to get something out of it, whether that be for good or ill. I’m not here to comment on whether it is good or not or if it’s popularity is a good thing or not either. Consider this just a brief reflection piece.
Kamina forgive me, I’ve been feeling a bit unenthusiastic towards anime lately. My feelings towards anime at the moment, after being separated apart from it for only a couple days (and even then I am still reading articles about it) has been a numbing experience for me.
Something occurred to me on my walk as I listened to the anime openings on my playlist: someone once asked me “Why do you listen to Japanese music when you don’t understand what they’re saying?”. Continue reading “Nothing Wrong With Anime Music Indulgence”
Do you ever feel that there are certain shows you could see yourself connecting with when you were younger? That had you watched them at a particular time, they would’ve probably meant the world to you, because you had such a different way of thinking about yourself and the world back then? Continue reading “10 Years Later… Haruhi: how was it?”
Here’s a bit more introspection that’s been stuck at the back of my mind for some time. This time with more focus on what it means to be a fan of anime, and the line between being a fan and being a hardcore fan. Continue reading “How otakucore Am I?: some fan behaviour reflection”
Remember years ago when you were watching anime and your only exposure was either from TV or DVDs? Remember the experiences that came with watching shows around the time they were airing? Continue reading “Trying to Capture The Time Capsule Experience”
